NITE System Targets Driver Comfort, Safety
Comfort, safety and efficiency are the focus of Bergstrom Inc.'s new NITE system.
The NITE system (short for No-Idle Thermal Environment) provides total sleeper comfort in hot and cold weather without engine idling. It combines a high-efficiency air-conditioning system and a compact air heater to create the most efficient no-idle climate-control solution on the market today.
"We feel the time is right for an OEM-quality climate solution," said Joe Nett, director of marketing for Bergstrom's Aftermarket Group. "An engine-off heating and cooling system helps greatly with driver comfort and rest. And rest and driver safety are directly related. Long-haul truckers are very excited about this new system."
Measuring 22 inches long x 16 inches wide x 11 inches high, the air-conditioning system weighs only 70 pounds and has a cooling capacity that meets drivers' sleeping needs. It features a variable speed compressor, all 12-volt DC components and brushless DC technology. Fully independent of the truck's electrical system, the air conditioner runs off of the NITE rechargeable power source and requires no power inverter.
The NITE system's power source is engineered for simplicity and reliability. It measures 10.5 inches long x 29 inches wide x 11.5 inches high and adds only 264 pounds to the truck's weight. It provides dependable, cost-efficient electricity, with a useful battery life of three years or more.
In cold weather, the NITE heating system keeps the sleeper area continuously warm all night. At just 8 pounds, it measures 12.7 inches long x 5.1 inches wide x 4.8 inches high. Standard features include a ceramic ignition and variable temperature output control. The energy-efficient device uses 0.03 to 0.06 gallons of diesel fuel per hour.
